The Flintshire Youth Forum (FYF) hold a Conference every year to show people what we do and to give young people the opportunity to have their say. The Conference was held on 5th of November. All young people who are aged 11 to 25 are invited to come along to have their say about issues that affect their lives and to be heard by the people who make decisions about them.

We became members of the FYF when we came to the Youth Conference in 2010. We understand how important it is to be heard and listend to. We love being members of the FYF. At the FYF group the members do not fight or call people names. They work together as a team and that's why we're so glad to be part of it.  We now come every week - it's something you can do on Tuesday's and you're welcome to join us anytime-you would enjoy yourself.

At the conferenc, we started off by introducing ourselves and showing people what we have been up to in 2011. This included activities like residentials, days out, helping to run the Young Flintshire website and our work with Gypsy Travellers. We also have a Theatre Forum, where we explore issues through pantomimes and plays.

We work to help people get confidence in themselves, to know their rights and show respect in our County.

The conference was held at the Glanrafon Centre in Mold.

The issues that young people raised included:

  • Questions for an MP
  • Transport
  • EMA
  • Youth Mayors
  • ID
  • Places to go to hang out
  • Actif Cards
  • Bullying
  • Jobs
  • Government
  • Money
  • Welsh / schools
  • Education
  • Drugs, alcohol and smoking

The Youth Forum have a really good relationship with the Children & Young People’s Partnership, and we hope that by working with them and others, we can work to make some positive changes for young people in Flintshire.
