Flint’s High Street came to life to the sound of music on Saturday 23 July, when a group of people suddenly started dancing to the surprise of passers by. The flash mob dance was organised by the Arts, Culture and Events section of Flintshire County Council and the piece was choreographed by NEW Dance practitioner Angela Fessi. The dancers were of all ages and hailed from Flint and further afield.

The event was organised to launch Flintshire’s Cultural Olympiad involvement through the Cauldrons and Furnaces project, and as part of the national ‘Open Weekend’ initiative. On 23 June 2012 Flint Castle will come to life with performers, dancers, circus acts and giants interpreting the heritage of the area. Hundreds of Flintshire’s young people, as well as local community groups, will be involved in the project to celebrate the Olympics coming to the UK.

‘Cauldrons and Furnaces – Flint Castle’s’ Artistic Director, Robin Goddard, said:

"This is the first of many activities and events that will be held throughout this next year in the build up for the amazing finale to be held next June. People from across Flintshire will take part in preparing for the performance, making the dragons and giants, learning the dance moves and creating musical pieces. If any community groups would like to get involved they can contact me through the Arts, Culture and Events office on 01352 702471."

After the impromptu performance on Flint High Street the dancers moved on to Flint Castle, which will be the site for the Cauldrons and Furnaces performance in 2012, where they performed the piece once more.
