Extreme sporting and spa facilities descend on Deeside
Flintshire County Council, in partnership with Alliance Leisure, has started a multi-million pound project at Deeside Leisure Centre in Queensferry. Set to be the first of its kind in Wales, an indoor extreme sporting zone will open its doors within the next few months.
Featuring a large skate park, the extreme zone will include a range of thrilling ramps and jumps for BMX riders, skateboarders and in-line skaters. It will be one of the largest skate bowls in the UK.
The centre is also set to become a major draw for climbing fanatics with 80 square metres of climbing surface reaching a maximum height of four metres for bouldering. The wall will cater for all abilities, from easy routes to the more technical and difficult overhang routes; plus a seven metre high climbing tower to introduce new climbers to the sport. There will also be a five metre high rope course.
As part of the complex, Alliance Leisure is also developing the first Welsh public day spa which will accommodate four treatment rooms and a large heat experience. This will include a herb sauna, a crystal steam room, a salt grotto, an aroma room, foot spas, an igloo, feature showers, a spa pool, heated loungers and a relaxation area.
Getting more people participating in sport and enjoying the benefits of regular physical activity will offer widespread social and health benefits for Flintshire’s community. Cllr Hutchinson continued: “Partnering with Alliance Leisure has allowed us to create a new sporting environment which is welcoming, inspiring and a pleasure to visit. Furthermore, we have been able to address the diverse leisure needs of our local community. Within the next few months, we will open the doors of our extreme sport and spa facilities.”
